As part of the programmes “Safety, Support and Solutions” funded by the United Kingdom through the Department of Foreign and International Development (DFID), and the “Africa Migration Programme” funded by the United States of America through the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), IOM conducted research studies to improve the understanding governments, humanitarian agencies and national actors have of migration trends around gold mining areas towards better policies. Six countries in West and Central Africa were targeted for the studies, namely Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Guinea, Mali and Senegal.
