Environmental Sustainability Initiatives

Across the region, IOM offices increasingly adopt environmentally sustainable practices. Check out some of them below.

IOM's Plastic-Free Office Initiative - Ghana

On 1 September, all UN premises in Ghana – including IOM – announced their commitment to go single-use plastic-free. In the office setting, going plastic-free means changing consumption practices. The new policy is an opportunity for UN staff in Ghana to be part of the UN’s global environmentally friendly vision, to help to work towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs 13, 14, and 15, and to contribute to cleaning up our planet! For IOM, it is also an opportunity to draw attention at the broader nexus between migration, environment and climate change. More sustainable practices would contribute to, for example, reducing environmental degradation and disasters that can cause displacement and migration. IOM Ghana’s staff is on board, and enthusiastic about going single-use plastic-free to contribute to a more sustainable future!
